



Energy & Housing
To help save money, reduce emissions and adapt to climate change, our community needs to drastically change how we generate electricity and heat our homes. We have all the technology we need, we ‘just’ need to help everyone make that transition and to retrofit our homes, schools and businesses so we are ready for the future.
We are proud that Wedmore has PV on all eight of its community and sports buildings. Our next project is PV on St Marys Church.

This is a short list of action we have taken over the years:

Encouraged and supported Wedmore Community Power Co-Op, a locally owned non-profit 1MW solar farm

Launched the Green Wedmore Solar Challenge 1000 with Sunlit Solar and Lendology to facilitate the installation of PV to homes in the parish. Click here for more information.

Commissioned a Wedmore Energy Study which can be read here

Took part in the Mendip Open Eco Homes scheme

Raised money for the Wedmore Village Hall Solar Project to install a solar PV array and Tesla Powerwall.

Raised money and found PV kit for the Tennis Club and Bowls Club buildings

Raised money to supply and fit PV at Wedmore First School Academy

Bulk purchased renewable equipment for local use

Held a Green Fair and Energy Evening

Installed Wedmore’s first EV charging point at The George

Introduced a Warmer Wedmore initiative to help retrofit social housing to reduce energy usage costs
